The Blue Valve System has been developed and patented by Dr Owen Day, Director of Creative Marine Solutions Ltd. Dr Day is a marine biologist and a keen sailor, and has worked in the Caribbean for over 20 years. He has seen first-hand the damage caused by sewage discharges from boats in some of the most beautiful anchorages in the Caribbean. He strongly believes that this pollution can be easily prevented and that sailing can be made into one of the most sustainable and beneficial forms of marine tourism.
A prototype discharge sensor valve has been built by Creative Marine Solutions and the University of the West of England (UWE), and we are looking to develop the Blue Valve System further and test it on sailing boats. We are looking for partners to discuss our proposed approach and develop this concept further.
Dr Day is also the Executive Director of CLEAR Caribbean Ltd, a not-for-profit that works with communities throughout the Caribbean to restore ecosystems and implement climate change adaptation solutions - see www.clearcaribbean.org CLEAR currently operates large coral restoration programmes in St Lucia and in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
